This patch removes, and changes, some sections of the early levels (mostly the first third of the game) to give the remaining sections a more focused, linear, and streamlined feel.

Before it, the early levels introduced many concepts right at the start and some even happened simultaneously on the screen. Although it fit with the whole retro "old school game" vibe, it's better to start the game with more "boring" sections with only a single toy to play with at a time. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it can increase the chance that the player will understand the gameplay and the fighting moves will "click" for them so they'll be equipped to play the game ( Some people did not understand or forgot how to play even after the tutorials and introductions because there seemed to be too much happening ).

There's enough challenge and complicated decisions in the later levels, so the game didn't need to start with all that right away.

So my new game where you can't even walk right without also shooting, can't jump without dropping deadly grenades(that can kill you), etc... is probably still the most normal thing I put on this site..... Just relatively to the rest.

I hope you enjoy the game it's a pretty light hearted retro style side-scroller.

Contrary to what I expected, "Modu Beats" proves to be one of my least liked games in here lol

People say the controls are incomprehensible when they are 4 arrows keys and 2 action buttons (basically not any more than old Nintendo NES games). I suspect the problem is that if things start to happen synchronized to music they run the risk of appearing to happen "at random". It could be that the player has the sound turned off or simply experiences sound on a different channel in their brain right now, or that they really expected full control on that part of the game such as shooting. Another possible culprit is the 3D rendering slowing down people's computers not letting the game run smooth. Yet another possibility is that I'm just shit at programming player controls 😂 or maybe I've had them badly explained.

But specifically about the music-synchronized stuff, I'm curious how I can make it better because I am working on a much different but bigger music-based game now. For one thing I think I'm going to need a "tutorial" section where the player can only pass it if they carefully listen to some sounds and act on them, ensuring both that the player has the sound volume set reasonably and that they are aware it's important to listen to, before being allowed to play. Any other ideas on this topic?

Anyway I added a nice patch to ModuBeats where now the game supports playing on a touch screen.

It works great on my touchscreen laptop.

I tried playing the game on my old smartphone. Unfortunately it doesn't run smoothly, but I'm sure some newer phones or beefier tablets can run it.

The game had some issues and not many sounds on the first upload.

It's like I must always screw up the first upload for some reason.

Just hope it isn't a pain in the ears with all the sounds now 😅

...Also I've decided to leave intact one of the "bugs":

Finally I feel happy about the game, or more accurately, it's presentation level to people who aren't crazy technical gamers like me.

The update was based on the many reviews here and on a few "let's play" videos I've seen of it.

The holy skip button!  "Skip Button" (By far the most requested feature lol) I've had to insert it in a way that doesn't omit important information.

But I've also made the game details as a whole clearer. It really shocked me how people could get lost in this simple game, and I hope this sort of thing doesn't happen anymore.

I do feel kinda lame for addressing all these "hot" issues only weeks after, but it was important to me and it's worth fixing the issues at any time. There's also a new Newgrounds medal now! :P

Sadly there is one RARE issue that has not been completely dealt with (http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1400641). It can slow down the game to a crawl if it happens, and the only way to play it normally is on a different browser. It's one of the most esoteric bugs I've seen in flash in my intense 10 years experience with it. I think it will probably disappear in a future version of OpenFL.
